Friday Favorites June 30th

Konjac sponge. For months I’ve been dying to try a Konjac sponge, but kept passing it up because of the $18 price tag. I purchased one on Amazon for $5.94. The sponge is very rough when dry, but as soon as you get it wet and lather some face cleanser in there it is amazing! Normally I wash my face with my clairsonic when I want to exfoliate. If I opt for a wash rag or some other cloth my face gets irritated from daily washing. This sponge is really gentle, removes all the traces of make up that my make up remove leaves behind, and leaves my skin feeling soft. The sponge lasts about 2-3 months.

Urban Decay’s Virgin Eye Shadow This shadow is one that is included in the original Naked palette. I’ve used it so much that I hit the pan! It is similar to MAC’s Shroom shadow. I prefer this Urban Decay shadow over MAC because the product is a little more powdery and soft. $18 is pricey for one shadow, but I have not been able to find a drug store color that is similar and the same consistency.

Real Techniques Sculpting Set. Another set of affordable makeup brushes to add to the collection. Real techniques brushes are reasonably priced and decent quality. I purchased this set on Amazon for $10.94.

Blender sponge holder. I use my beauty blender the same way every day. I wet it and blend my concealer into my foundation. After I was finished, I set the blender on vanity and continued on with my make up routine. The blender always rolled around smudging makeup all over the vanity. This little holder keeps the vanity clean and my blender in one place. Plus, it is only $7.99.

AELEC Bluetooth Headphones. For $20, these Bluetooth headphones are a worthwhile investment. They are comfortable, cancel out noise, and produce a decent sound. My only compliant is that there is a lot of static and skipping when they are worn around other people who are using bluetooth headphones. Otherwise, a great deal for the price!

EcoTools Konjac Pure Complexion Sponge – For months I’ve been dying to try a Konjac sponge, but kept passing it up because of the $18 price tag. Last week at Target I saw this one for $4.79 and thought I’d give it a try. Apparently the sponges are said to last 1-3 months.

Garnier Beach Chic – I picked this up at CVS Pharmacy for roughly $5. I’ve always been a fan of Garnier’s beach texture products. In the summer months the humidity reeks havoc on my hair so adding a few spritz’s of this helps maintain some kind of style. It does not weight your hair down because it is very light. This is not typical hair spray so do not expect it to hold a style all day. The smell is also pretty pleasant.

MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ –  This can be purchased from MAC for $22. This is something useful in the summer time. If kept in the fridge, you can spritz some on your face as a refresher. It’s a great product, but you can find something that does the same thing for much cheaper. Check out this product by Evian for $12.

Sugar Lip Treatment with Sunscreen – I received this lip treatment as a sample. Although, it is a bit costly at $22.50, the product is worth every penny. My lips are chronically dry regardless of the season. I apply this first thing in the morning before my makeup and my lips stay moisturized throughout the day. Usually I apply the un-tinted color underneath lip-glosses for extra SPF. Of course you can find a similar product that is much cheaper, but I have yet to find a replacement that continues to moisturize my lips hours later.

Also, do NOT forget about this beauty launching on Wednesday July 8th!

Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Contour Palette Review

Review_Kat_Von_dkatvond_shadelight001Photo Via Temptalia.com

Recently released by Kat Von D, the Shade + Light Contour Palette features three highlighting shades and three darker shades for contouring. It is comparable to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. Anastasia’s kit has been on my wish list for quite some time but, I was a little hesitant to purchase it because of the price and the fact that I am still unable to get the right look when I try to contour. So far the best combination I’ve found is adding a darker foundation to contour areas and add a little bit of bronzer to the areas once the darker foundation is blended into my usual foundation. I like Maybelline Instant Age Rewind and Naked Flushed. Unless I’m going out somewhere at night I prefer to make a subtle contour during the work day.

My thoughts about the Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette:

PROS

  • Sturdy packaging
  • Clear Mirror (unlike some palettes that have a cheap plastic one)
  • Blends Easily
  • Smooth Finish

CONS

  • Colors may be a little too light for some skin tones
  • Too much sparkle in the darker colors

Overall this is a quality palette that I am happy to add to my collection. Kat Von D also released a contour brush along with this palette, that I plan to purchase. At $36 the brush is pricey but, I have other Kat Von D brushes and they are super soft and durable. I’m in need of a really good contour brush!

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Does anyone have both the Anastasia & Kat Von D palette? How do they compare?

Best of 2014

Is it too late to post a “Best of” list for 2014? It was so hard to get up on Monday and go back to work for a full week as well as start another class at school. Getting up and out of bed the past few days have been a challenge. It is freezing here in Pennsylvania and no matter how many layers you wear, going outside is literally painful.  Anyway, here are my favorites from last year.

best_of_2014

DressModCloth I love your dress I love these dresses so much that I have one in 3 colors. ModCloth just released two new colors Burgundy and Cobalt. The Burgundy keeps going out of stock, but I was lucky enough to order one earlier today. The dress is very versatile and can be worn in spring, summer, and fall. Although the fabric is thin, I still am wearing it this winter. Heavier tights, sweater, and boots make it work.

Boots – G by GUESS Gadget Bootie In the beginning of fall I looked everywhere for a good pair of black booties. I now have 3 pairs and these by far have been my favorite. They are comfortable and actually warm. It looks like DSW is almost sold out online though.

Lip GlossL’Oreal Colour Riche Balm & NYX xtreme lip cream Both of these products are incredibly affordable, which is why I have several and always keep one of each in my purse. I prefer these over lipstick when I’m at work or just doing something casual.

NailsGelous Nail Gel This isn’t really much of a substitute for gel polish. It removes just like regular polish but, does seem to keep it from chipping right away. I think it also keeps my nails a little stronger.

Skinboscia Purifying Cleansing Gel I added this to my skin care routine later this year after experiencing several break outs. After using it nightly for a few weeks I did see an improvement in my skin and will purchase it again. The price is a bit high but, it is very gentle on sensitive skin and a bottle will last you a few months.

BookNot That Kind of Girl by Leena Dunham In 2014 I really got into the Girls show and once I heard Leena was releasing a book anxiously waited for the release date. The book was incredibly entertaining up until the end. I enjoy Leena’s raw, gritty, truthfulness and the fact that she is so comfortable and confident with herself.

PaletteToo Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette Also high up on my list of favorites is Urban Decay’s Naked Basics 2 Both of these palettes offer high quality shadows in neutral colors that can easily be toned down or vamped up. I picked the Chocolate Bar palette over Naked Basics 2 because I just cannot get over the fact how amazing it smells when you open it up.

Thanks to everyone who posted a favorites list, I have several products on my 2015 list to purchase!

Friday Favorites September 5

Guess what?!

Tomorrow is my birthday! Hopefully right now I’m still asleep spending the day relaxing. Tomorrow night we have reservations for a yummy dinner at Emeril’s Italian Table. The Eggplant Parm is amazing. Without further a due here are this week’s favs…

ff

1.) This Ulta Blender Sponge I learned applying make up by trial and error. My first tool of the trade was my fingers. Next, I graduated to those foamy sponges, and for awhile I just used the puff pads. I started wearing MAC liquid foundation and moved on up to a brush. Out of all of these methods, the brush provided the most smooth lasting coverage. UNTIL I tried this blender thingy. I saw it over and over again at Sephora and refused to pay $18 for it. On a trip to Ulta my husband I insisted I try it because it was only $5. Oh my gosh! I can’t believe what a different it makes with make up application.

2.) Target High Waist Flare Jeans Flares Flare jeans became popular while I was in junior high school and I’ve been a fan ever since. HOWEVER I don’t do low rise. My hips are large and any item of clothing that goes lower then my navel instantly creates a muffin top. I have a hard time finding jeans with my body type. I’ve been wearing a pair of Tilt jeans for like 5 years now that have fit me on again and off again. Right now, it’s an off again period. I gained a little weight (maybe 5lbs or so) and the jeans no longer fit as well as they should. When I saw these at target I had to try them on. I love the faded color and the fact that they are “high waist.”

I felt they were flattering, the high waist was perfect to cover up that little bit of extra bulge and they are a bit stretchy. Jean problem solved!

3.) Naked 2 Basics Palette Everyone is raving about this thing and yes, it is that awesome! I love that the colors are matte. I own both the Naked and Naked 3 palette an both have a lot of shimmery colors included. I work in an office and try to usually stay toned down. Plus, I’m lazy in the morning and don’t feel like going all out on my make up. If you like neutral matte colors, definitely pick this up!

4.) The Simpsons Powder Blush in Sideshow You. I grew up watching the Simpsons and love that MAC paid homage and came out with a special collection. The eye and lip colors were a little too bold for me so I opted on the coral blush. The packaging is adorable and the blush is beautiful. One of my favorite blushes is Orgasm by NARs but I find that to be too sparkly. Sideshow You reminds me of it but it is more matte. If you are a Simpson fan, definitely pick up something from this collection!

5.) NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in STRAWBERRY JAM Am I the last to know that Target now sells NYX products? I am pretty much at target every other day and have never noticed them before. I love love LOVE these lip creams. The colors are super sheer and not sticky. Strawberry Jam in particular leaves a pink neutral hue on your lips. It’s very subtle but pretty. I think these are about $4.50 each. Try one, seriously.
