EcoTools Konjac Pure Complexion Sponge – For months I’ve been dying to try a Konjac sponge, but kept passing it up because of the $18 price tag. Last week at Target I saw this one for $4.79 and thought I’d give it a try. The sponge is very rough when dry, but as soon as you get it wet and lather some face cleanser in there it is amazing! Normally I wash my face with my clairsonic when I want to exfoliate. If I opt for a wash rag or some other cloth my face gets irritated from daily washing. This sponge is really gentle, removes all the traces of make up that my make up remove leaves behind, and leaves my skin feeling soft. Apparently the sponges are said to last 1-3 months.
Garnier Beach Chic – I picked this up at CVS Pharmacy for roughly $5. I’ve always been a fan of Garnier’s beach texture products. In the summer months the humidity reeks havoc on my hair so adding a few spritz’s of this helps maintain some kind of style. It does not weight your hair down because it is very light. This is not typical hair spray so do not expect it to hold a style all day. The smell is also pretty pleasant.
MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ – This can be purchased from MAC for $22. This is something useful in the summer time. If kept in the fridge, you can spritz some on your face as a refresher. It’s a great product, but you can find something that does the same thing for much cheaper. Check out this product by Evian for $12.
Sugar Lip Treatment with Sunscreen – I received this lip treatment as a sample. Although, it is a bit costly at $22.50, the product is worth every penny. My lips are chronically dry regardless of the season. I apply this first thing in the morning before my makeup and my lips stay moisturized throughout the day. Usually I apply the un-tinted color underneath lip-glosses for extra SPF. Of course you can find a similar product that is much cheaper, but I have yet to find a replacement that continues to moisturize my lips hours later.
Also, do NOT forget about this beauty launching on Wednesday July 8th!
Wow, is it really 2015? I feel like the older you get, the quicker the years seem to fly by. I wanted to get back on track and do some Friday Favorites again. Usually over Christmas time I avoid the malls and other shopping centers because of all the craziness. Some people enjoy Holiday shopping, but I am not one of them. After all the Christmas posts I’ve seen, there are several products I’m dying to try! Here are a few of my favorites:
1.) Shea-Infused Lounge Socks – These socks are so incredibly soft and comfortable. I love wearing them when I’m just lounging around the house. I bought this particular pair at Bath & Body Works, but drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc. all carry them as well. In those stores you can usually find them in the foot care section.
2.) Eucalyptus Spearmint Aromatherapy Body Mist, Body Wash, and Body Cream from Bath & Body Works -I received the Body Lotion & Body Wash as a gift. The scent is very fresh and it is not too strong like some aromatherapy products. Bath and Body Works sells a whole line of products so I picked up the body cream and body mist. Does it really relieve stress? I have no idea, but it smells awesome.
3.) Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade – After 4 years my Anastasia Brow powder hit pan so, I finally went out and bought this product. The consistency reminds me of gel eyeliner. The staying power is excellent and definitely prefer this over the powder.
4.) Vaseline Lip Therapy Lip Balm – In the winter time my lips are constantly chapped despite the various products I’ve tried to prevent it from happening. After doing some research, I read that Vaseline was actually the best treatment for chapped lips. Putting it on right before bed and sleeping with it on overnight really helps your lips absorb the moisture. The size of the package is perfect! It is a mini version of the typical Vaseline container that can easy be carried anywhere.
5.) Target Metallic Infinity Scarf – This is my very first infinity scarf and I love it! It is incredibly warm and has silver threading throughout the knitting. I’m a bit disappointed though because the weather has not been cold enough to wear it this winter. It’s too bulky and warm to wear as just an accessory.
That’s it for this week! Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
I can’t believe there is ONLY two more weeks until Halloween! I wish the retail business would let us relish a bit more and enjoy the fall holiday rather then slowly put out their Christmas merchandise. I have a secret… I like to pretend I hate Christmas, but I really don’t. I love the decorations and THE FOOD. Hello stuffing! Anyway let’s talk about my favorite things this week.
1.) L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara I’m not going to lie… I bought this mascara because the packaging is adorable! The package advertises a flexible brush but, I found it to be very flimsy. I don’t really clump on mascara, just one quick swipe for me and that’s all. While I am disappointed with the brush, this mascara is pretty spectacular. It lasts all day, is waterproof, and removes easily. As far as it making your lashes “manga” like and all full, I really don’t think that affect is possible. Regardless, I’m satisfied with this $8 purchase.
2.) boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel Lately I have been having an issue with small breakouts. I’ve been going through a lot of stress with school so, I am attributing it to that. I went out on a limb and bought this $26 cleanser because it had great reviews. It is supposed to help fight break outs. I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now and I LOVE it. Unlike other acne fighting washes this one is very light and gentle. Just a tiny bit is enough that will foam up and leave your skin feeling really clean. I’m replacing this with my typical purity cleanser for now.
3.) Real Techniques Stippling Brush Great brush I purchased at Ulta for $10. I often use this to apply my foundation. Eventually I am going to invest in a quality MAC brush, but for now this does the trick.
4.) Maybelline Porcelain Collection “Prima Pink” Eyeshadow Palette I bought this at Target a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it is a limited edition so I was unable to locate it for purchase online. The combination of colors result in a smokey purple look and with a decent primer it lasts all day. Personally purple shades are my favorite because I have dark eyes and I think that purple shades make them pop.
5.) HUE Super Control Top Opaque Tights It’s getting a bit too chilly to keep wearing regular panty hose. I’ve switched over to opaque tights. The problem is I haven’t been able to find colorful pairs that also have a control top. I ordered a grey pair of these on amazon for about the same cost as Macy’s. They had just enough “control” at the top (I was still able to breathe lol) and the color was really opaque! I plan to invest in a few more pairs in various colors.
I’ve tried hundreds of beauty products over the years, some were highly recommended and others were impulse purchases. Clearly, each and every person has their own favorites that work for them that may not work for others. Below are a few products that I found very disappointing despite their great reviews.
1.) Benefit They’re Real Mascara Benefit’s products have never disappointed me. Although they are a bit pricey, the quality is great and usually well worth the price. It was time for me to purchase a new mascara and after reading all of the great reviews, I decided to try this one. While it does make your lashes look full and longer, I found that it left a residue under my eyes by the end of the day. Meaning, it left tiny black flakes under my eyes. This is an on going issue that I have with mascara. Besides the flakes after two weeks the part where you twist on the lid broke off so I had to throw it out.
2.) Malibu C Hard Water Weekly Demineralizer This is a product another blogger mentioned on their site and highly recommended. My highlights get brassy because we have hard water. It is not that big of a deal, but I thought I’d try it out to see if I could brighten them up and maybe last longer between hair appointments. The product consistency is a bit weird because it is a white powder. I expected it to be more like a cream conditioner. After a few uses I found that I didn’t notice a difference other then the fact that it majorly dried out my hair.
3.) NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Besides their blushes this is the only other NARS product I’ve tried. Again, it had high reviews and I was looking for a quality eye primer. Through out the years I’ve tried many different primers and many of them ended up leaving creases in my eye shadow. After a few hours the shadow would settle into the creases and look clumpy instead of smooth. This product is very sheer and has an applicator that you’d normally find on a lip gloss bottle. Using the applicator was a bit difficult and the primer did not lock my shadow into place. By the end of the day, all of my eye make up wore off.
4.) e.l.f. High Definition Powder When I ran out of my go to Make Up Forever Powder, I decided to purchase this one to use in the mean time. It was cheap and I just happened to be at Target, so I picked it up. It comes with a powder puff applicator which picks up way too much product. I used another brush, but still looked pale white. The product isn’t translucent and does not sink into your skin to hold in the foundation. Again, you get what you pay for.
5.) Maybelline New York Dream Bouncy Blush This is another product that had great reviews. The consistency is really odd and almost rubbery. I applied it with Real Techniques by Sam & Nic Chapman Stippling Brush and it went on okay and actually was a pretty color. A few hours later, it wore off. Isn’t the point of a cream brush to actually last longer? If I used blush powder over it to set it, it did last a bit longer but was still disappointing.
Tomorrow is my birthday! Hopefully right now I’m still asleep spending the day relaxing. Tomorrow night we have reservations for a yummy dinner at Emeril’s Italian Table. The Eggplant Parm is amazing. Without further a due here are this week’s favs…
1.) This Ulta Blender Sponge I learned applying make up by trial and error. My first tool of the trade was my fingers. Next, I graduated to those foamy sponges, and for awhile I just used the puff pads. I started wearing MAC liquid foundation and moved on up to a brush. Out of all of these methods, the brush provided the most smooth lasting coverage. UNTIL I tried this blender thingy. I saw it over and over again at Sephora and refused to pay $18 for it. On a trip to Ulta my husband I insisted I try it because it was only $5. Oh my gosh! I can’t believe what a different it makes with make up application.
2.) Target High Waist Flare Jeans Flares Flare jeans became popular while I was in junior high school and I’ve been a fan ever since. HOWEVER I don’t do low rise. My hips are large and any item of clothing that goes lower then my navel instantly creates a muffin top. I have a hard time finding jeans with my body type. I’ve been wearing a pair of Tilt jeans for like 5 years now that have fit me on again and off again. Right now, it’s an off again period. I gained a little weight (maybe 5lbs or so) and the jeans no longer fit as well as they should. When I saw these at target I had to try them on. I love the faded color and the fact that they are “high waist.”
I felt they were flattering, the high waist was perfect to cover up that little bit of extra bulge and they are a bit stretchy. Jean problem solved!
3.) Naked 2 Basics Palette Everyone is raving about this thing and yes, it is that awesome! I love that the colors are matte. I own both the Naked and Naked 3 palette an both have a lot of shimmery colors included. I work in an office and try to usually stay toned down. Plus, I’m lazy in the morning and don’t feel like going all out on my make up. If you like neutral matte colors, definitely pick this up!
4.) The Simpsons Powder Blush in Sideshow You. I grew up watching the Simpsons and love that MAC paid homage and came out with a special collection. The eye and lip colors were a little too bold for me so I opted on the coral blush. The packaging is adorable and the blush is beautiful. One of my favorite blushes is Orgasm by NARs but I find that to be too sparkly. Sideshow You reminds me of it but it is more matte. If you are a Simpson fan, definitely pick up something from this collection!
5.) NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in STRAWBERRY JAM Am I the last to know that Target now sells NYX products? I am pretty much at target every other day and have never noticed them before. I love love LOVE these lip creams. The colors are super sheer and not sticky. Strawberry Jam in particular leaves a pink neutral hue on your lips. It’s very subtle but pretty. I think these are about $4.50 each. Try one, seriously.
