Review Too Faced Sweethearts Blush

sweethearts blush20150211_072848

Being so close to V-Day I was drawn by the cute heart shape of Too Faced Sweethearts Blush when I first saw it at Ulta. My Husband offered to buy it as a V-Day present and gave it to me early as long as I promised a blog review in return.  There are three individual colors in each blush. Too Faced offers three different shades to choose from, Something about Berry, Candy Glow, and Peach Beach. Something about Berry is a mixture of shimmery bright pinks, Candy Glow offers lighter pinks with peach tones, and Peach Beach looks like a shimmery bronzer. I chose to purchase Something About Berry because I wanted something very bright to contrast my super pale winter complexion.

This is my first Too Faced blush purchase and I am happy to report the quality and pigment is exceptional!

For the price tag, I was a little disappointed with the packaging. The blush is encased in cardboard, which I initially found difficult to pull off the lid. After a few uses the lid slid off easily. As long as the cardboard holds up, I can deal with the packaging. Something About Berry is incredibly vibrant and on my pale skin toner a little goes a long way! I’m glad I added this blush to my collection!

Review Maybelline Facestudio Master Prime & Blur

Review_Maybelline_Primermaybelline-master-prime-weightless-blurring-primer

I’ve tried using primer several years ago for the first time and bought the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer for a whopping $36. It did smooth out my skin, but I didn’t really notice a difference with how long my makeup lasted. Since it didn’t really live up to it’s claims, I put it in the back of my makeup drawer and just forgot about it. Time to time I’d pull it out and try again, but clearly was never really satisfied with the results.

Flash forward to my everyday face post last week, I had mentioned that my blush does not stay put no matter what I do. Asa from Lace and Pearls Blog suggested I try out a primer. While browsing around the makeup section at the drug store, I saw this Maybelline FaceStudio Master Prime and Blur. I picked up the Blur + Smooth version for a reasonable price of $6.99.

Fresh out of the tube, here is a photo of what it looks like.

20150205_070607I was surprised to find out that the consistency is a little bit runny and similar to a facial lotion. Once applied, the product actually feels like the Smashbox Primer. I’ve only had it for a few days, but I did notice a difference in the length of time my makeup lasted. My blush stays put and my foundation doesn’t soak into my skin by the end of the day.

I highly recommend this product as a cheap alternative to Smashbox!

bareMinerals 5-In-1 BB Cream Shadow in Elegant Taupe – I received this cream shadow in an Ipsy bag several months ago. I know that  many people rave over bareMineral products but, none of their products stood out to me. This 5 in one shadow claims to provide 12 hours of wear, primer, brightening benefits, smoothing of fine lines, and sun protection. Does it live up to it’s claims? Definitely! It has great staying power and will last 8+ hours of work and through my work out afterwards. (I know, it’s bad but, sometimes I don’t take my makeup off before I work out!)

Murad Renewing Cleansing Cream – The incredibly bitter cold winter we are having has left my skin dry, especially my face. I was looking to add a moisturizing cleanser to my routine and this Murad one had great reviews. The product is supposed to be ultra moisturizing and renew dull, dry skin. After using it for two weeks my face does feel more moisturized. The best thing about this cleanser is that it is very gentle and light. A tiny amount goes a long way!

Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Contour Brush & Shade + Light Contour Palette – I posted a quick review of the contour palette last week. (Click here to see the post) My lovely Husband bought me the brush to go along with the palette for Valentine’s Day and gave it to me early! I wanted the brush ever since I saw Kat’s post of the packaging on Instagram. The angle of the brush is perfect for contouring and the bristles are soft allowing the product to blend seamlessly. If you are looking to buy a quality contour brush, this is a great option!

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer – Many of you have mentioned that this is a really great concealer that is very creamy and does not settle into fine facial lines. A lot of concealers I’ve tried seep into my tiny under eye lines and accentuate them! So far I’m loving this product. The consistency is creamy which, I believe keeps it from settling. It seems to last a lot longer then most concealers I’ve tried in the past. I wear glasses everyday so, some of my eye makeup does rub off. Thanks to everyone who recommended this!

Olay In-shower Body Lotion, Quench – I mistakenly bought this thinking it was body wash! It’s actually an in-shower body lotion that claims to infuse skin with moisture using the humidity of the shower to allow it to absorb more into your skin. The formula is exactly like regular lotion. It does not lather but, rinses off clean. I like to use this when I feel extra lazy and don’t want to take the time to put lotion on my skin. My only complaint is the powerful soapy smell.

Also, I just want to thank Nessa again from That Chic Fashion Blog for hand writing a sweet personal note for all of her favorite Bloggers in her #takebackwhatsyours campaign post! I admire each and everyone one of you who is participating. Thank you for sharing your personal obstacles and inspiring so many other people to do the same. I’m happy to be part of a community that is so supportive and encouraging!

Have a lovely weekend!

Ipsy January Bag Review

Hikari Cosmetics Mechanical Eye Liner in Storm – This is a dark grey eyeliner that has a little bit of sparkle to it. The formula is a little bit waxy, which made it difficult to apply. At $13 this product is a bit over priced for the quality it produces.

Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in Treasure – I received a sample of Pacifica eye shadow in another Ipsy bag that is a similar shade that I use quite often. The shadow goes on smoothly but, it isn’t very pigmented. The other downside is that the Pacifica shadows are only available in a palette and cannot be purchased separately.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo Luminizer – This luminizer is very thin and liquidity. I’d recommend mixing it with some of your foundation before you apply it. It gives your skin a little bit of “glow” which is great for my dull winter skin.

La Fresh Eco-Beauty Be Good. Good Day. Day Moisturizer – I immediately noticed the unpleasant smell when I opened up this product. It is medicinal smelling, greasy, and very watery. After applying the moisturizer I did not notice a substantial difference in my skin.
Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm – I rolled my eyes when I saw another lip balm sample but, after trying it was pleasantly surprised! The smell/taste kind of reminds me of honey lemon Halls throat drops. The lip balm is very soothing to my over chapped lips. Unfortunately, it does not provide sun protection so I’d have to use it with a product that does or if I’m staying in doors.
Ipsy is beginning to disappoint me! I’ve had a Birchbox subscription before but, cancelled because I preferred Ipsy. Are there any other subscription services available out there? The Fortune Cookie Soap Box is so much fun but, it comes out quarterly. The Spring box ships on February 9th and it appears it may be Alice in Wonderland themed! If you like soap/lotion/body wash, their boxes are worth checking out!

Best of 2014

Is it too late to post a “Best of” list for 2014? It was so hard to get up on Monday and go back to work for a full week as well as start another class at school. Getting up and out of bed the past few days have been a challenge. It is freezing here in Pennsylvania and no matter how many layers you wear, going outside is literally painful.  Anyway, here are my favorites from last year.

best_of_2014

DressModCloth I love your dress I love these dresses so much that I have one in 3 colors. ModCloth just released two new colors Burgundy and Cobalt. The Burgundy keeps going out of stock, but I was lucky enough to order one earlier today. The dress is very versatile and can be worn in spring, summer, and fall. Although the fabric is thin, I still am wearing it this winter. Heavier tights, sweater, and boots make it work.

Boots – G by GUESS Gadget Bootie In the beginning of fall I looked everywhere for a good pair of black booties. I now have 3 pairs and these by far have been my favorite. They are comfortable and actually warm. It looks like DSW is almost sold out online though.

Lip GlossL’Oreal Colour Riche Balm & NYX xtreme lip cream Both of these products are incredibly affordable, which is why I have several and always keep one of each in my purse. I prefer these over lipstick when I’m at work or just doing something casual.

NailsGelous Nail Gel This isn’t really much of a substitute for gel polish. It removes just like regular polish but, does seem to keep it from chipping right away. I think it also keeps my nails a little stronger.

Skinboscia Purifying Cleansing Gel I added this to my skin care routine later this year after experiencing several break outs. After using it nightly for a few weeks I did see an improvement in my skin and will purchase it again. The price is a bit high but, it is very gentle on sensitive skin and a bottle will last you a few months.

BookNot That Kind of Girl by Leena Dunham In 2014 I really got into the Girls show and once I heard Leena was releasing a book anxiously waited for the release date. The book was incredibly entertaining up until the end. I enjoy Leena’s raw, gritty, truthfulness and the fact that she is so comfortable and confident with herself.

PaletteToo Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette Also high up on my list of favorites is Urban Decay’s Naked Basics 2 Both of these palettes offer high quality shadows in neutral colors that can easily be toned down or vamped up. I picked the Chocolate Bar palette over Naked Basics 2 because I just cannot get over the fact how amazing it smells when you open it up.

Thanks to everyone who posted a favorites list, I have several products on my 2015 list to purchase!
