Friday Favorites

friday favorites textFriday Favs Template1.) The Body Shop Body Butter, Blueberry – $14.50 – Several months ago I mentioned the Strawberry scented Body Butter in a favorites post. When I was almost out of it I visited my local Ulta, but it was sold out. In fact, every scent that I’d actually like was sold out. So, I went on Amazon and low and behold I found a blueberry scented one! Amazon has several other scents too that I have not seen in stores. Anyway, I love this just as much as the strawberry. It has a very light blueberry scent that is not over powering.

2.) Nyx Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in Little Susie – $5.99 -This product came in last month’s Ipsy box (that I did not review). At first glance the color looks like a light pink/coral, but once I applied it I was surprised how bright it actually was. It went on very smoothly and was not sticky. I felt it was more similar to lip gloss, but not as sheer. This isn’t a color I’d typically wear, but maybe I’ll throw it into the rotation.

3.) OPI Nail Color in Bubble Bath – $9.50 – This is a very, very soft nude shade. I was concerned that it would require more then 2 coats to actually look like the color in the bottle, but two coats was plenty!

Cheap Gifts For A Beauty Junkie

As blog posts flood the internet with “gift guides”, I figured I would jump on the bandwagon and do one as well.

I’m sure others, like myself, are limited on funds this time of year so, I thought a “cheap” beauty gift guide is a great idea. Most of these products can be found at Ulta, drugstores, Target, Walmart, etc. The ultimate goal here is to get quality products for a reasonable price that most women would use rather then resorting to buying gift cards. Personally, I have friends and co-workers that I prefer to buy little gifts for.

Some other “cheap” gift tips:

  • Purchase “travel” sized products and make a small gift bag/basket with a few different ones. I buy them for my own personal use to test out products before I spend the money on the regular size.
  • Hit up Bath & Body Works. They usually have awesome sales on the small bottles of lotion, sanitizer, etc.

Blogmas Day 8 My Holiday Party Attire

I skipped out on my work’s Holiday party this year because I wasn’t feeling too well. This weekend I have two party’s to attend. My Husband’s work party is on Friday night at a hotel with a sit down dinner. So, I wanted to dress a little fancy, but not over the top. I found the perfect dress from The Limited and got a great deal on some heels from Modcloth.

party attireI decided to go with a black and gold theme when I purchased this dress. Unfortunately, it is sold out online, but may be in stores still. I paid about $80 for it which is a great price!

The shoes I got from Modcloth on a deep discount for $25. Of course they are sold out as well.

Luckily I’ve had a black lace shrug already from when we got married 5 years ago. I hate taking large bag to functions like this, so I’m still not sure what I’m going to do about a clutch. I may check out some thrift stores or Target. You do not need to spend an exorbitant amount of money to look good!

As for make up, I’m going to try to do a black/gold smokey eye. I say try because I have never been able to master the smokey eye look. I’d love to be able to wear fake lashes as well, but when I attempted that last week I had glue stuck to my eyelid for two days. I’m going to go with a nude lip and gold nail polish.

Friday Favorites September 26

Here we are at the very last Friday in September! I think I may be revamping my blog and changing up the colors a bit sometime… that is when I have time. I tried something a little different this week with my favorites as well. Believe it or not, finding 5 things you really love each week is really hard. Sometimes I lay awake at night digging deep into my subconscious to try to figure out great products to post. I wish I could go out every week and buy something new to test out, but like every other average person, I have to watch my spending. Besides that I’d take a Pumpkin Latte over a new lipstick any day!

ff1.) Hikari Lipstick in Cabernet This dark berry lipstick was included in my monthly Ipsy bag. The shade is a tad too dark but, goes well with the darker shades of the fall seasons. I applied the color on before work one morning and it lasted a few hours before fading out. To extend the life of lipstick I recommend getting a nude or similar shade lip pencil to the lipstick you are wear, line, and fill in your lips. This allows the lipstick to bond to your lips more and stay in place. Also, don’t forget to blot! Forgo the expensive liners and go pick up wet n wild, rimmel, or any other cheap drugstore brand. Here is a photo of me from this morning with the lipstick on:

2.) Chinese Laundry Boots Yes, I finally decided on a pair! These came in the mail yesterday and I was so excited to wear them to work today. Unfortunately, the wacky Pennsylvania weather put a kibosh on that when the temperatures were supposed to go up into the 80’s today. I tried them on last night though with my black leggings and they are exactly what I was looking for. Eventually, I’ll be purchasing a different style as DSW conveniently sent me a coupon along with my order.

3.) Modcloth’s I love your dress in Olive I now own all three colors of this style dress. This olive one in particular is another great staple for a fall wardrobe. Once the cooler temperatures hit I plan to pair it with a black cardigan, black leggings, and boots. As I already said before, the fabric is very comfortable and flattering.

4.)  OPI Lost on Lombard Nail Polish This was a suggested purchase by the Husband. Although judging from the bottle I thought I had several similar colors, I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it. The shade is basically a muted burgundy and very classy. If you are looking for a darker burgundy, but want to avoid using a blood red color, this is perfect.

Friday Favorites August 29

I can’t believe that August is already over! I’m still hating the weather as the temperature is still in the high 80’s and 90’s. Fall and Halloween cannot come soon enough! Art History class tied me up this past month, so I’ve been neglecting blogging. My September goal is to work out a schedule and stick to it. Anyway on to the fun stuff:

1.) OPI Tickle my France-y This is probably the first OPI nail polish I’ve purchased in the last two years. I’ve been hung up on Essie because of their unique selection of colors. In the bottle this color, looks like a mix between nude and mauve. Once it is applied and dries, I’d describe it as a mauve/nude/lilac color. It’s perfect as an end of summer transition into fall color.

2.) Milani Lip Liner 03 Nude & Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color 902 C Bare It All I can’t take credit from this combination because I read about it somewhere online. It is comparable to the “Kylie Jenner Lip” darker nude shade. In the 90’s I already rocked this shade with the lip liner, so this is NOT a new thing to me! Anyway, for under $10 you can pick both of these up at a drug store. The color combo goes great with any skin tone.

3.) Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children I can’t even tell you how long I’ve been reading this book! Thanks to school I do not get much free time to read. This book is a cross over between Xmen sprinkled with some Harry Potter. What first drew me to this book at Barnes and Nobles was the strange photographs inside the book. They include a girl levitating, one holding a fire ball, and a person with a mouth on the back of their head. It turns out most of these photographs are actually real! Of course some of them are doctored up, but it is still fascinating.

The story follows a young man who is grieving over the sudden death of his Grandfather. He grew up listening to his Grandfather’s stories about his life when he was younger. The tales were all very far fetched, so the young man assumes they are just fairy-tales. Once his Grandfather passes, he begins to have some strange experiences of his own.

Although I do not often read fiction, I found this book to be quite enjoyable. It is a fast read and appropriate for children as well. There is also a sequel that I will begin reading next.

4.) Kimono I love this. I do not actually own it, because I have no idea what I could pair it with. It’s too casual for work and when I’m not working I’m wearing pj’s. So, as much as I adore it, mostly like it woulf sit in the back of my closet.

5.) Batiste Dry Shampoo This stuff is amazing! I’ve tried high end dry shampoos before and hated them. Over the past several years I’ve gone from washing my hair daily to about 3 times per week.  In between washings I like to use this stuff as it is a light refresher. It does not cause a build up or leave a powdery residue. The best part is that it is super cheap!

REMINDER: MAC Cosmetics now has their Simpson line available for purchase on their website. As with all the special collections they are bound to sell out fast!
