Best of 2014

Is it too late to post a “Best of” list for 2014? It was so hard to get up on Monday and go back to work for a full week as well as start another class at school. Getting up and out of bed the past few days have been a challenge. It is freezing here in Pennsylvania and no matter how many layers you wear, going outside is literally painful.  Anyway, here are my favorites from last year.

DressModCloth I love your dress I love these dresses so much that I have one in 3 colors. ModCloth just released two new colors Burgundy and Cobalt. The Burgundy keeps going out of stock, but I was lucky enough to order one earlier today. The dress is very versatile and can be worn in spring, summer, and fall. Although the fabric is thin, I still am wearing it this winter. Heavier tights, sweater, and boots make it work.

Boots – G by GUESS Gadget Bootie In the beginning of fall I looked everywhere for a good pair of black booties. I now have 3 pairs and these by far have been my favorite. They are comfortable and actually warm. It looks like DSW is almost sold out online though.

Lip GlossL’Oreal Colour Riche Balm & NYX xtreme lip cream Both of these products are incredibly affordable, which is why I have several and always keep one of each in my purse. I prefer these over lipstick when I’m at work or just doing something casual.

NailsGelous Nail Gel This isn’t really much of a substitute for gel polish. It removes just like regular polish but, does seem to keep it from chipping right away. I think it also keeps my nails a little stronger.

Skinboscia Purifying Cleansing Gel I added this to my skin care routine later this year after experiencing several break outs. After using it nightly for a few weeks I did see an improvement in my skin and will purchase it again. The price is a bit high but, it is very gentle on sensitive skin and a bottle will last you a few months.

BookNot That Kind of Girl by Leena Dunham In 2014 I really got into the Girls show and once I heard Leena was releasing a book anxiously waited for the release date. The book was incredibly entertaining up until the end. I enjoy Leena’s raw, gritty, truthfulness and the fact that she is so comfortable and confident with herself.

PaletteToo Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette Also high up on my list of favorites is Urban Decay’s Naked Basics 2 Both of these palettes offer high quality shadows in neutral colors that can easily be toned down or vamped up. I picked the Chocolate Bar palette over Naked Basics 2 because I just cannot get over the fact how amazing it smells when you open it up.

Thanks to everyone who posted a favorites list, I have several products on my 2015 list to purchase!

Friday Favorites January 2nd!

2015

Wow, is it really 2015? I feel like the older you get, the quicker the years seem to fly by. I wanted to get back on track and do some Friday Favorites again. Usually over Christmas time I avoid the malls and other shopping centers because of all the craziness. Some people enjoy Holiday shopping, but I am not one of them. After all the Christmas posts I’ve seen, there are several products I’m dying to try! Here are a few of my favorites:

Friday_Favorites_January_2

1.) Shea-Infused Lounge Socks – These socks are so incredibly soft and comfortable. I love wearing them when I’m just lounging around the house. I bought this particular pair at Bath & Body Works, but drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc. all carry them as well. In those stores you can usually find them in the foot care section.

2.) Eucalyptus Spearmint Aromatherapy Body Mist, Body Wash, and Body Cream from Bath & Body Works -I received the Body Lotion & Body Wash as a gift. The scent is very fresh and it is not too strong like some aromatherapy products. Bath and Body Works sells a whole line of products so I picked up the body cream and body mist. Does it really relieve stress? I have no idea, but it smells awesome.

3.) Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade – After 4 years my Anastasia Brow powder hit pan so, I finally went out and bought this product. The consistency reminds me of gel eyeliner. The staying power is excellent and definitely prefer this over the powder.

4.) Vaseline Lip Therapy Lip Balm – In the winter time my lips are constantly chapped despite the various products I’ve tried to prevent it from happening. After doing some research, I read that Vaseline was actually the best treatment for chapped lips. Putting it on right before bed and sleeping with it on overnight really helps your lips absorb the moisture. The size of the package is perfect! It is a mini version of the typical Vaseline container that can easy be carried anywhere.

5.) Target Metallic Infinity Scarf – This is my very first infinity scarf and I love it! It is incredibly warm and has silver threading throughout the knitting. I’m a bit disappointed though because the weather has not been cold enough to wear it this winter. It’s too bulky and warm to wear as just an accessory.

That’s it for this week! Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Struggles Curvy Girls Know Too Well

If you are a “curvy” girl who often struggles finding clothes that fit properly you MUST watch this video:

Being a “curvy” girl I have experienced all of these struggles firsthand. I’ve been fighting clothing to make it fit as long as I can remember. When I was a teenager in the 90’s (ugh, saying that makes me feel so old), it was extremely rare for any store to carry a pants size larger then an US size 11. All I wanted was a pair of flared jeans! Eventually I resorted to buying mens jeans, which actually fit better then womens, and made my own flared bottoms by cutting them up and sewing pieces of fabric on to make the bottoms wider.

Thankfully, things are different now and many stores carry larger sizes and cuts, but the search for the “perfect fit” still has many pitfalls. I could be a size 14 in one retailers clothing line and a size 10 in another. The size I need is sold out roughly half of the time. Shopping is beyond frustrating at times, but once you find an item that fits your body perfectly, you feel that extra boost of confidence and know that you look amazing!

  • If you are shopping online, read the reviews! Most online retailers offer a rating system on items they sell. Many reviewers include their measurements or body type so you can better gauge how it will fit you. In turn, post reviews yourself to help out other ladies.
  • Can’t find your size in the store, but it’s available online? Try on something similar at the store in the size your looking for to get a better idea on how it will fit.
  • Fabric that provides stretch is your best friend.

I don’t believe in “one size fits all,” because each of us have our own unique shape!

Blogmas Day 8 My Holiday Party Attire

I skipped out on my work’s Holiday party this year because I wasn’t feeling too well. This weekend I have two party’s to attend. My Husband’s work party is on Friday night at a hotel with a sit down dinner. So, I wanted to dress a little fancy, but not over the top. I found the perfect dress from The Limited and got a great deal on some heels from Modcloth.

party attireI decided to go with a black and gold theme when I purchased this dress. Unfortunately, it is sold out online, but may be in stores still. I paid about $80 for it which is a great price!

The shoes I got from Modcloth on a deep discount for $25. Of course they are sold out as well.

Luckily I’ve had a black lace shrug already from when we got married 5 years ago. I hate taking large bag to functions like this, so I’m still not sure what I’m going to do about a clutch. I may check out some thrift stores or Target. You do not need to spend an exorbitant amount of money to look good!

As for make up, I’m going to try to do a black/gold smokey eye. I say try because I have never been able to master the smokey eye look. I’d love to be able to wear fake lashes as well, but when I attempted that last week I had glue stuck to my eyelid for two days. I’m going to go with a nude lip and gold nail polish.

2014 Holiday Party Attire

2014 Holiday Party
This year the company I work for is having our annual Holiday party at a local venue that is absolutely gorgeous and filled with history. The party the room is being held is reminds me of a King’s throne room. A lot of the woodwork and ceiling art is the original. My plan was to go all out and look elegant and treat it like a second prom. I did go to my prom, stag of course with a bunch of friends and we had a great time, but I didn’t like my dress. 15 years ago there weren’t many options for “plus size” girls during prom dress season. I think the highest size went up to was  an 11 and I was a whopping size 14 (I’m being incredibly sarcastic when I say that). So, I followed my Mother’s fashion advice and got a burgundy colored dress to contrast my pale skin tone. (What I really wanted was a light blue dress I saw in Seventeen Magazine that had a corset top and a big poofy ballerina bottom).
Last month I put the above collage together and even Photoshopped the dress to match the dark navy color I was looking for. Unfortunately, we all have priorities and while I would have loved to play dress up, I decided to skip the party. I have 2 other Holiday parties I have to attend next weekend and I’m not even certain what I’m wearing to those. I do have dresses, but like most women, I don’t like wearing the same dress to the same event every year. I do not get to dress up very often so, when I do I like to go all out. This annoys my husband at times because he doesn’t understand why I need to buy things to wear when I already have perfectly suitable attire.
Men. They will just never understand.
