Hey Hey! Hope everyone had a great Holiday! Over the past few weeks during my silence from the blog I’ve collected some great things I need to share:
1.) Pink Sugar Perfume This scent is very sweet and reminds me of vanilla. While wearing this perfume I’ve been told I smell like cotton candy, cake, cinnamon, and a lot of other sweet things. My major perfume annoyance is when a scent does not last long. I’d like to be able to smell it here and there throughout the day, but not too over powering. Pink Sugar is very light and does last quite a long time.
2.) While doing a little retail therapy I saw this Guess coat at Bonton. I was looking for a dressy warmer coat rather then wear my puffy down coat all winter long again. The coat’s quality is exceptional and the fit is very flattering. It is hard to notice in the photograph, but the shoulders have a patch of fake leather on each.
3.) Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Foundation Still on my quest to achieve the perfect highlight and contour make up routine, I decided I was going to try to use a darker foundation for the contour color instead of powder. I already use one of the age rewind products as an under eye highlighter and am happy with the application, consistency, and price of the product. I’m not sure how long a full face of this foundation would last, but I can attest that it works well the way I use it. The no-mess application is super convenient!
4.) Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Gel Eyeshadow in Vintage Plum I wrote about these cream shadows several times. Just when I think I have all of the colors I’d use I’ll see an different color at another store. Whenever I stop in at a drug store I just like to browse the beauty products because they all stock different products and shades. One of my favorite palettes is the Boudoir Shadows by Too Faced. As you can see the palette incorporates different shades of purple and cool dark grays. This cream shadow is the perfect base for this palette. While eyeshadow primers are okay, I have found that using a color cream base actually provides a deeper intense color and lasts longer.
5.) Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow in Mandarin I’m not sure why this shadow is described as a “gel powder” because it is no different then a typical eye shadow. Milani’s website describes it as a “light orange satin matte.” Again, this was another drug store purchase that I am very pleased with. I was looking for a shadow that was slightly orange but not over the top. My goal was to keep a natural look but add a tiny bit of color in there. I like to pair this with a deep brow in the corners of my eyes and place the orange just on my lids.
1.) Simply Vera Vera Wang Print Shift Dress This past weekend I needed to do a little shopping for some fall/winter appropriate work attire. I find that Ross, Marshall’s, and Kohl’s always have something decent and reasonably priced. One of my favorites is this Vera Wang dress. The quality of the material is superb as it is silky but still heavier to keep you warm during the season. The sleeves have a strip of sheer fabric running from the wrist to the shoulder. In my opinion tie waists are very unflattering on my body type so, I paired it with a thin light brown belt that I placed just above my waist. (One day I’ll get around to taking outfit photos)
2.) Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding Candle Do you like Bananas? Do you like Banana Bread? Do you just like things that smell like yummy food that are inedible, but they smell so amazing you want to eat them anyway? THEN BUY THIS. Bath & Body Works always has great deals going on and hand out coupons practically every time you buy something.
3.) BCBGeneration “Anders” High Wedge Booties I need these boots. At first I thought they’d be a bit too much with all the buckles and zippers but after wearing my other black boots to work day in and out I need something with a little more flare. I’m waiting for them to go on sale…tomorrow.
4.) Merona Women’s Knee High Socks (Target) My favorite look right now to go along with fall/winter dress is the legging/sock/boot combo:
Target sells really supper cute knee socks for $3 a pair and then ones that are a bit more fancy (like the ones pictured in my post.) By fancy I mean they are ribbed and have adorable little buttons. Anyway they have an awesome variety of colors and patterns. I may purchase some leg warmers for later this winter, but for right now this is a good substitution.
5.) Lena Dunham’s Memoir-ish ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ You either have to love or hate Lena, there is no in-between. In my opinion she is so incredibly talented and real. I watched her movie “Tiny Apartments” a long time ago and thought that it was meh. It wasn’t bad, it held my attention, but was still very dry. Then I check out the HBO show “Girls.” After a few episodes I was hooked. There are times that I sit there and wonder “why am I watching this?” Yet, I find the interaction between the characters and dialogue hysterical.
Like the show, the book is a bit raunchy at times, funny, serious, and even sad. The book is made up of short essay’s on Lena’s life experiences. Like Lena, I too have had some bizarre experiences throughout the past 32 years. Most of them I would not share with anyone let alone publish them in a book. Yet, after reading about her experiences I feel a little less embarrassed about my own. Lena is brave and empowering. Her honesty and confidence make me re-evaluate my own insecurities.
I can’t believe there is ONLY two more weeks until Halloween! I wish the retail business would let us relish a bit more and enjoy the fall holiday rather then slowly put out their Christmas merchandise. I have a secret… I like to pretend I hate Christmas, but I really don’t. I love the decorations and THE FOOD. Hello stuffing! Anyway let’s talk about my favorite things this week.
1.) L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara I’m not going to lie… I bought this mascara because the packaging is adorable! The package advertises a flexible brush but, I found it to be very flimsy. I don’t really clump on mascara, just one quick swipe for me and that’s all. While I am disappointed with the brush, this mascara is pretty spectacular. It lasts all day, is waterproof, and removes easily. As far as it making your lashes “manga” like and all full, I really don’t think that affect is possible. Regardless, I’m satisfied with this $8 purchase.
2.) boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel Lately I have been having an issue with small breakouts. I’ve been going through a lot of stress with school so, I am attributing it to that. I went out on a limb and bought this $26 cleanser because it had great reviews. It is supposed to help fight break outs. I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now and I LOVE it. Unlike other acne fighting washes this one is very light and gentle. Just a tiny bit is enough that will foam up and leave your skin feeling really clean. I’m replacing this with my typical purity cleanser for now.
3.) Real Techniques Stippling Brush Great brush I purchased at Ulta for $10. I often use this to apply my foundation. Eventually I am going to invest in a quality MAC brush, but for now this does the trick.
4.) Maybelline Porcelain Collection “Prima Pink” Eyeshadow Palette I bought this at Target a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it is a limited edition so I was unable to locate it for purchase online. The combination of colors result in a smokey purple look and with a decent primer it lasts all day. Personally purple shades are my favorite because I have dark eyes and I think that purple shades make them pop.
5.) HUE Super Control Top Opaque Tights It’s getting a bit too chilly to keep wearing regular panty hose. I’ve switched over to opaque tights. The problem is I haven’t been able to find colorful pairs that also have a control top. I ordered a grey pair of these on amazon for about the same cost as Macy’s. They had just enough “control” at the top (I was still able to breathe lol) and the color was really opaque! I plan to invest in a few more pairs in various colors.
This week I wanted to do something a little different for my Friday post. Every year I venture to one of those Halloween stores that randomly pop up this time a year and spend an obscene amount of money for a costume. Yet every year I end up not really wearing the costume because we don’t go to any Halloween parties and trick or treat night ends up being one of the coldest nights of the year. So, this year I am NOT buying a costume just to sit outside with a blanket draped over myself to hand out candy. In case I do decide to wear a costume, I’ve come up with a few ideas that I can most likely pull together from things in my closet or from the thrift store. Our local thrift store actually puts clothing and accessories together to make a costume and displays them at the store.
So, rather then putting together a typical home made costume I thought of some different unconventional ones.
(Note: “Goth School Girl” is inspired by the movie “The Craft”, which I was obsessed with in junior high.)
Here we are at the very last Friday in September! I think I may be revamping my blog and changing up the colors a bit sometime… that is when I have time. I tried something a little different this week with my favorites as well. Believe it or not, finding 5 things you really love each week is really hard. Sometimes I lay awake at night digging deep into my subconscious to try to figure out great products to post. I wish I could go out every week and buy something new to test out, but like every other average person, I have to watch my spending. Besides that I’d take a Pumpkin Latte over a new lipstick any day!
1.) Hikari Lipstick in Cabernet This dark berry lipstick was included in my monthly Ipsy bag. The shade is a tad too dark but, goes well with the darker shades of the fall seasons. I applied the color on before work one morning and it lasted a few hours before fading out. To extend the life of lipstick I recommend getting a nude or similar shade lip pencil to the lipstick you are wear, line, and fill in your lips. This allows the lipstick to bond to your lips more and stay in place. Also, don’t forget to blot! Forgo the expensive liners and go pick up wet n wild, rimmel, or any other cheap drugstore brand. Here is a photo of me from this morning with the lipstick on:
2.) Chinese Laundry Boots Yes, I finally decided on a pair! These came in the mail yesterday and I was so excited to wear them to work today. Unfortunately, the wacky Pennsylvania weather put a kibosh on that when the temperatures were supposed to go up into the 80’s today. I tried them on last night though with my black leggings and they are exactly what I was looking for. Eventually, I’ll be purchasing a different style as DSW conveniently sent me a coupon along with my order.
3.) Modcloth’s I love your dress in Olive I now own all three colors of this style dress. This olive one in particular is another great staple for a fall wardrobe. Once the cooler temperatures hit I plan to pair it with a black cardigan, black leggings, and boots. As I already said before, the fabric is very comfortable and flattering.
4.) OPI Lost on Lombard Nail Polish This was a suggested purchase by the Husband. Although judging from the bottle I thought I had several similar colors, I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it. The shade is basically a muted burgundy and very classy. If you are looking for a darker burgundy, but want to avoid using a blood red color, this is perfect.
